multi facesMediation is offered by the Michigan Department of Civil Rights (MDCR) as an option in the complaint resolution process. The MDCR investigates and resolves discrimination complaints and works to prevent discrimination through educational programs that promote voluntary compliance with civil rights laws.

Typical issues discussed are compenstion, accusations of wrongdoing and attendance.  The decision to mediate is completely voluntary and must be agreed to by both parties. When the parties agree to mediate, the investigation is postponed to allow reasonable time for mediation to take place.  MDCR may refer the complaint the Dispute Resolution Center for mediation.

If you have a civil rights dispute call The DRC for a phone consultation with a coordinator at 734-222-3745 in Washtenaw, or in Livingston County 517-546-6007 or email us.

Visit MDCR at http://www.michigan.gov/mdcr/ or call for more information 800-482-3604.
